I've always raised my snakes giving them some freedom of choice within reason and I allow them to pick and choose their own feeders as babies and young juveniles. These are some of my baby Corn Snakes that I produced this past year and I don't often do feeding videos but baby snakes are so funny and cute with their personalities :)

Great Article To Read About Reptiles http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/19/sci...
It amazes me that HSUS is pushing to ban or add all large constrictor snakes to the Lacey Act !!! This action is totally uncalled for and it's ridiculous to ban big constrictors based on poor and inaccurate information !! Big Constrictor snakes are very calm placid animals if they are handled and worked with and they can be just as social an animal as any dog or cat can be.
This is my daughter, April and myself spending the afternoon with Faide, my big Dumeril's Ground Boa to show people that big snakes aren't the evil,.mean, aggressive, killers that so many people portray them to be when in fact they are VERY curious and passive, and affectionate snakes !!

Snakes are VERY curious animals and that natural curiosity is often mistaken by people that don't understand snakes as an aggressive action toward someone. Snakes in the wild will normally try to flee and get away from people not approach them !! If a snake is coming toward you odds are the snake is just curious about who you are and what you are doing !!! This is Jade, my adult female Coastal Carpet Python being her usual prissy curious self. Snakes are very amazing animals especially if they are handled and socialized and my snakes all enjoy human interaction and follow me constantly when we're outdoors. In reference to Jade, she has a cute nickname that everyone calls her now (Miss Prissy Pants) because she is so particular and prissy and dainty acting for a snake LOL Jade actually has to have her own set of tongs because she refuses to accept her feeders from any other set of tongs that aren't hers :)

I had to post this after Tawny came out of the plastic tote and robbed one of Krystl's mice thawed out on my daybed on a paper plate and a paper towel LOL That was a first I'd never had a snake literally come out of the feeding tote and help herself to dinner ROFL Raising snakes and caring for them and handling them and working with them on a daily basis is a wonderful experience and learning about them is just as rewarding for the people that fear snakes or don't really know much about them :)

My Boa Constrictors top cage level covers the entire picture window and it's their floor they use to bask in the sun.
Great Article And One WELL WORTH Reading !!!

So many people believe that Reptiles (snakes) don't have any form of intelligence and aren't capable of displaying emotions in any form and when it comes down to it they really aren't all that much more different than people are they know what they like and what they don't like.
Nosey, my female Argentine Boa has a fit if I set anything on top of their upper cage level which is their sun basking cage level and she will sit and stare at it and hiss at it until I remove it off the top of their upper cage levels roof. This isn't a rare occurrence she displays this same behavior every time I set something on top of their cage.
Can snakes have OCD? It would seem so that Nosey displays Obsessive Compulsive Disorder LOL

My cat and snakes developed their relationship out of curiosity about each other and my cat and some of my snakes have been pals for 13 years and I didn't force them into this relationship so NEVER force any two animals of uncommon species together the results can be devastating !! This relationship took many years to develop between my cat and snakes !! The outdoors scenes were filmed the end of this past summer still too cold for the snakes outdoors this year.

My snakes are VERY social animals and some of them love to sit with me for hours watching TV. My Daughter was visiting when I had Faide out (my male 8 foot Dumeril's Ground Boa) and very uncommon for him, he got all cranky because I kept distracting him while he was watching TV. Snakes are VERY curious animals and I've found most of mine love watching the computer monitor as well as my television.

Video taken by the Photographer for the Observer Dispatch the day we had an interview.

I had a big local newspaper do a story about the intended ban of Boa Constrictor snakes and their photographer spent a couple of hours at my home meeting my snakes and I gave him a crash course on snake education.
Even though it wasn't an anti snake article to many it appeared to be more negative than positive for the snakes. However for people to understand all the bans we've had to fight over the years trying to keep us from having snakes people need to understand both sides of these proposals.

The editor (Amy) was a nice lady and their photographer (Mark) really enjoyed hanging out with us and learning about my snakes.

We the snake owners and (USARK) will continue to fight these bans and we will never stop being the voice for the snakes that can't speak for themselves !!

We will continue to educate people about the truth and facts about what great pets snakes make in the care of responsible keepers and we will not give up our fight until we have seen the constrictors that were added to the Lacey Act being removed as they were added without scientific proof that they should be considered dangerous animals !

In time with proper education perhaps the media will stop adding to people's fears of snakes and will better understand our point of view.
Snakes are on the bottom of the list of statistics of captive bred animals that are a danger to people and the media really needs to state the facts and stop exploiting the snakes and their owners that have dedicated their lives to raising snakes responsibly.

I spend most of my time with my snakes out of their enclosures they are an everyday part of my life and family and they are VERY social animals that enjoy being around people. My niece, Crystal was visiting and she was enjoying hanging out with Jade, my female Coastal Carpet Python and accidentally smacked Jade in her nose LOL The looks were priceless for the remainder of the visit Jade kept glaring at Crystal.

I will allow this video to speak for itself as it does a great job of showing people that snakes ARE NOT AGGRESSIVE animals they are DEFENSIVE animals that try to protect their lives. In the wild snakes first defensive action is to FLEE not approach or attack someone. Snakes in a captive environment are rather shy and timid animals unless harassed or provoked !!!

Warmer weather means more daily activities for my snakes outdoors and it's been a long cold winter so they are all excited about being able to go back outdoors for some exercise, freedom and the opportunity to enhance their senses :) My daughter April is also in this video with Sunny and Tipr.

After 48 hours of laying eggs Tawny produced 27 perfect eggs and I stayed up with her all night to mark her eggs and move them into their incubator. I thought Tawny had finished laying her eggs and later on she laid 4 more eggs. She did great and I'm currently waiting for Krystl (Snow Corn Snake) to lay her clutch so I will have alot of amazing babies around July. Producing baby snakes is an awesome and beautiful experience :)

I've had several request to make another video on this topic in more detail so this is one that was made upon request :)
I've used regular heating pads instead of reptile heating pads/mats for years and I would never go back to those because they burn out too fast and concentrate all of the intense heat in one small area and for what they cost they don't last very long. I prefer my heat for belly heat to be spread out over a larger area. You HAVE TO use the heating pads that DO NOT have the Auto Shutoff Function

There are so many people really are poorly educated about snakes and it's really a sad thing that people refuse to learn more about them because snakes make just as great a pet as any dog or cat does. So many feel that snakes don't have feelings and aren't capable of displaying any form of emotions which is inaccurate !! It depends on the time their handler is willing to invest with their snakes.
These are my two big Argentine Boas showing me some love and appreciation for installing a double fan in the window across from their enclosure to help keep them cooled down as they don't like high temps nor high humidity. They are not like the common boas !!
Nosey (female) Grumpy (male) both are 13 years old at 12+ feet in length and each weighs 100+ pounds and they are awesome companions and very calm social snakes.

Snakes can be so goofy sometimes and entertaining and I caught this video of Sunny this morning and hadn't planned to post it when I filmed it but it was too cute to not share with people. It's amazing the lengths some snakes will resort to just for some extra attention from their owner/handler ROFL I had already taken Sunny's perch out when she decided she wanted to come out too and visit with me, or HAD SHE? LOL

It took Tawny an entire 48 hours to lay her eggs this year and end count she laid 27 perfect eggs and I had her in a plastic tote next to me on my daybed through the entire birthing process and she kept trying to get on my lap to lay her eggs. LOL She did great and I'm so proud of her and looking forward to meeting the new babies around July

Snakes are evasive creatures and prefer to not have confrontations with humans and what so many consider aggressive behavior in a snake is merely their natural curiosity. SUNNY My Pastel Ball Python 3 years old :)

Snakes are VERY curious animals and all of my enclosures are set up so my snakes can see all of the daily activities going on around them in my house. Nosey and Grumpy love their top cage level which was built for them just for a basking floor so they can soak in the sun from my big picture window. Their enclosure in total consist of 28 feet of floor space including their 13 foot outdoor glass enclosure. Nosey and Grumpy kept stalking me all day trying to get my attention ROFL
